Perfumer H · 13 min

The same name in the bath

Perfumer H treats lotion, soap and wash as the same landscape as the eau. Not a matching set for the cupboard.

From the table in Cotai

Harris’s bathing line is glycerin soap from Lancashire, 500ml washes and lotions, and the same titles as the eaux: Bergamot, Rain Wood. Bergamot is Calabrian fruit with petitgrain, Sicilian lemon, juniper wood, a little tonka and lavender. Rain Wood is the wet woods of the juice — juniper, cedar, patchouli leaf — translated for water.

The point is sequence, not branding. Wash, then lotion, then the 50ml on skin. The house sells bundles for that reason. Icons, the discovery set, exists so you can try the juices before you commit to a bottle. We keep those on the table next to the bathing bottles, not in a gift corner.

If you only take one thing home from a first visit, take the Bergamot wash or the Rain Wood lotion and come back for the eau. The landscape is easier to recognise when it has already been on your hands.

Glycerin soap from Lancashire is a practical sentence. It rinses. It does not pretend to be a gemstone. Bergamot on a wet morning in Macau is Calabria arriving through steam, which is a better introduction to the eau than any card.

The point is sequence, not branding.

Rain Wood in the shower is the wet woods without the concentration of the juice. You recognise it later on a wrist. That recognition is the whole pedagogy of the house. No one needs a seminar if the wash has already told the truth.

Icons, the discovery set, belongs on the same table as the 500ml bottles. It is not a gift with purchase. It is how you try Salt, Moss, Ink, Vetiver before you pay for 50ml of one of them. We open it with people who say they do not know where to start.

Bundles exist because Harris thinks you will use more than one texture of the same name. Wash, lotion, eau. We sell them without wrapping them in a story about self-care. You are not being cared for. You are building a landscape you can walk through before noon.

Take the wash home if you take only one thing. Come back when your hands already know Bergamot. The 50ml will make sense in a way a first spray never does.
